Barneveld lies in the middle of the Gelderse Vallei and is known nationwide for poultry farming, with the Dutch Poultry Museum as its best-known attraction. The municipality has almost 64,000 residents, about 37,000 of whom live in the town of Barneveld itself. Villages such as Voorthuizen, Garderen, Kootwijkerbroek and Stroe also belong to the municipality. Barneveld has been growing for years, and you can see it in the housing construction. After Veller and De Burgt, two young family districts south of the centre, Bloemendal is now being developed, where around 1,500 homes will be added until roughly 2030. Districts such as Norschoten, De Vaarst and Vliegersveld mainly offer terraced and semi-detached houses, and mid-terrace homes are by far the most common type of home in the town. About two thirds of the homes are owner-occupied. The average sale price in 2025 was around €535,000, clearly above the national average. The Valleilijn railway stops at three stations in Barneveld and takes you to Amersfoort in about twenty minutes, and via the A1 and A30 you quickly reach Amersfoort, Apeldoorn or Ede. The centre has a pleasant shopping area, and in summer the Oud Barneveldse Dagen attract many visitors.
