Nijkerk is an old small town on the northern edge of the Gelderse Vallei, with a historic core around the Grote Kerk and, on its north side, the wide Arkemheen polder that stretches to the Nijkerkernauw lake. The municipality has over 46,000 residents: about 32,000 in Nijkerk itself and most of the rest in Hoevelaken and Nijkerkerveen. The housing supply is broad. In and around the centre there are older town and village houses, Corlaer and Paasbos are spacious family districts, and Strijland and De Bogen are of later date. On the west side the town is growing with Doornsteeg, a green new-build district where hundreds of homes for first-time buyers, families and seniors are still being built in the final phase. From Nijkerk station you reach Amersfoort in about ten minutes, and via the A28 and the Hoevelaken interchange you are quickly on the A1 towards Amsterdam. The centre has a full range of shops, and the border lakes are within cycling distance.
